Introduction
I am 36, my hubby is 37. We have been married almost 6 years. We have 3 beautiful sons but just don't feel like our family is complete yet. However, my family has not been at all supportive of our decision to have a large family. Hence, we were secretly TTC. Additionally, each of our other pregnancies was a complete surprise, so we had no idea what to do (other than the obvious) to enhance our chances of getting pregnant.
Trying-to-Conceive (TTC) experience
Since actually TRYING to get pregnant was totally foreign to us, we weren't really sure where to start. When I stumbled upon an OPK while buying tampons, I thought I'd give it a try during my next cycle. After getting the kit home and reading the instructions and information, I decided that it wouldn't hurt to chart my BBTs as well, so I went out and bought a BBT thermometer. I'd been having irregular cycles because I was still breastfeeding our youngest and really had no clue when/if I was ovulating. As it turns out, I ovulated late: on CD21, and I didn't detect my LH surge until CD19.
Charting Experience
Since I was brand new to charting and not really sure if I was doing it right, I only tracked my BBTs and used the OPK, but for us, that was enough to do the trick! Tracking BBTs was MUCH easier than I thought, and using the OPK really kind of "dummy-proofed" things for me. ;) I only charted BBTs and used OPKs for one month, but I definitely learned a lot about my cycle and fertility during that time. If/when we decide to try for baby #5, we will definitely use fertility charting again!
