Introduction
We had a beautiful home birth 2.5 yrs ago and I breastfed my son for 22 mos. At the end we were only breastfeeding at night though. During the time I was breastfeeding I never got my cycle back. I stopped breastfeeding at the end of October and at the beginning of Dec I got my first period. After about 5 weeks I spotted but did not have a "normal" cycle again until March.
I started running a lot and followed a very strict diet in April that forced my body into survival mode and did not cycle again for months. After about 3 mos of hard workouts I let up on that and started eating "normal" My cycle did not return until August.
Tests, Procedures, Medical consultations
I took supplements from a very reputable company and used chaste tree daily to support fertility. I also monitored my BBT since Dec and began checking my cervix and mucus in Aug with the return of my cycle. I went to a OB GYN in the beginning of Oct for an annual and to discuss fertility. SHe did a PAP and blood work (all came back normal) but did not do a preg test. Well she should have because I was about 4 weeks preg at that time (I did a test 3 days before my appt and it was negative- and didn't do another figuring she would check that if she thought it was needed)
Trying-to-Conceive (TTC) experience
I thought I would have been pregnant a year ago so it was hard to know that I do everything "right" - impeccable diet, exercise, little stress, sleep well, great relationships, etc. and still did not start my cycle. Looking back I can see that my experience makes perfect sense for me. A womans body is meant to have a break before carrying another child. In many traditional cultures the spacing is 3+ years for the mothers health to fully return. God has a plan and knows best. I feel blessed that my body is so healthy and functioning at what I feel is the best possible.
Charting Experience
Charting made a huge difference in my experience. I use a device that lets me know when I am fertile by giving a colored light. THat is fine but by charting out and checking cervix and mucs I was able to get a greater idea of what was going on in my body and that gave me peace of mind.
The Internet
The internet and this website were great tools for me in learning about myself and my cycle. I HIGHLY recommend women learn as much as possible about their body.cycle- not only for conception but for overall health. My only complaint about the website was that it changed my ovulation date after I put in a positive preg test to a date which I know is inaccurate.
