Late August 2006 = Cycle #29 (this is getting ridiculous!)
I was diagnosed with PCOS in December 2003; we have been TTC since November 2003. After a year of side effects from Metformin, Prometrium and Clomid, I went off everything in January 2005 and opted for a natural route...which seemed to have hurt my cycles more than helped. I did acupuncture and TCM from 12/04-06/05. My July 2005 cycle was normal, unaided with any type of meds (not sure if I ovulated but my cycle was under 30 days for once!). I did a round of Letrozole (Femara) in August 2005; I ovulated but did not get pregnant and had a normal cycle. My September and October 2005 cycles were 40 days (!) - I used natural progesterone cream up until mid-November, and began using Fertility Blend a week later. My December 2005 cycle was 56 days!! About a week after I stopped taking Fertility Blend (to prepare for my laparoscopy), my temp jumped up and I ovulated (progesterone level was 12). I had a laparoscopy on January 20th my doctor/surgeon said my cervix is blocked (cervical stenosis). Lab work in February 2006 confirmed what the lab work said in August 2005 - I was "classifed" as normal and I am apparently borderline with PCOS...I have it but I may not however I am definitely not insulin resistant nor have I ever had cysts! IUI #2 was planned for mid April, with my third round of Femara/Letrozole. At Day 22 with no apparent ovulation, I went to my doctor who did an endometrial biopsy. He got in with no problems and said, "That was not the same cervix I saw in January!" Prayer works ;-) So, my issue is hormone related...not cervical *praise God* I went back on Metformin for a month but quit after being tired of the side effects. I took Prometrium to bring on AF but it only made me ovulate (apparently, did not confirm with bloodwork). That cycle was a record 62 days!?*% June 2006 cycle, my longest ever, was 78 days. I took Prometrium to end the cycle and I started taking Synthroid after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism (TSH was 3.18 in February and 2.85 in early August...lower because I was taking a natural supplement). After a month on Synthroid, my TSH is .459! The doctor wanted me close to 1 and the range is .3 to 3 - VERY happy :-) I also went back on Metformin in September 2006 after some digging and the help of people on a message board that I do in fact have PCOS (high LH:FSH ratio but not IR nor do I have many of the symptoms typical of PCOS). We will start TTC again in October, once our insurance maternity rider kicks in!
