Haunted by what could've been

A mother oh so loves her child, the wicked grin, the saintly smile
To grow up strong to make her proud in what seems a little while.

So many blessed, the task of ease, without fear, a heart so pleased
Fulfilled are those their deepest need, so velvet soft, a smell so sweet

Not their world is one of pain, an ache so deep, a wish to gain
For me my prayers so seemed in vain; my spirit dark, my hopes are stained

A piece of me is gone with them; little souls to heaven send
I imagine life time and again, haunted by what could have been.
